"A Heart For Pine Ridge" started in 1997 with one woman's trip through the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. After witnessing first-hand the conditions that our First Nations people were living in, something moved in her heart and thus the journey began. What was initially a few online contacts with various organizations or non-profits, soon became an annual trip to the reservation to bring whatever supplies she could gather or afford and now has grown into a group of friends connected by a common goal to help our Oglala Lakota brothers and sisters any way they can.
The American Indian is of the soil, whether it be the region of the forests, plains, pueblos or mesas. He fits into the landscape, for the hand that fashioned the continent also fashioned the man for his surroundings. He once grew as naturally as the wild sunflowers; he belongs just as the buffalo belonged. —
